Fair Trade Shell Pendant with Large Bead

A lovely fair trade polished shell pendant complete with a large blue bead on a leather chain. The shell is hand made and polished by crafts people in Bali. This necklace would make a lovely fair trade gift.

The pendant will be in a free gift box but if you are sending this fair trade pendant as a special gift you can choose to have it sent in a pretty fair trade batik box. The fair trade batik box has been hand made in Java using recycled saris and offcuts, ensuring each box is unique. Batik is a traditional way of dyeing fabric and is common in Java. The box is slightly padded and can be reused to keep small items of jewellery in or for those special bits and pieces.

The shell measures approximately 6.5cm diameter.

The importer of this necklace is a member of BAFTS and has been trading fairly for over ten years. They buy fair traded products from India, Indonesia, Nepal and Thailand. Most products are purchased directly from the primary producers. In India they will purchase from larger companies who provide benefits for their workers such as free healthcare and free education. One of their suppliers provide funding for two schools in Rajasthan. One supplier in Nepal supports an orphanage and he gives his workers work clothes and holiday pay.

In Indonesia and Thailand where they only deal with the primary producer the supplier may provide advance payments for them to purchase materials and other necessities. All workers are paid a fair price for each product with is above the national average and men and women are paid the same rate.
